When the Fencibles arrived in New Zealand in 1847 they lived in tents for the first few years and all the cooking would have been done on an open fire outside. After sometime when they got their cottage built it would have had a kitchen but not has we know it today. With no electricity their was no fridge, cooker and fancy appliances and no running water, so things were very different. 

Have a look at the worksheet and work out what are some of the differences between the kitchens and once you have done that why not make some yummy soda bread. Be safe in the kitchen and have some fun
